Before a casino appears in one of our guides, it has to pass a set of checks. Then we decide where it fits, based on what it would actually mean for you as a player. Here is the process, step by step.
Step 1: the gatekeeping checks
- Licence you can verify. We confirm it in the regulator’s register, such as the MGA’s, or through a seal that validates the exact domain.
- A named operator. The company and its registration number must be published.
- Nordic players accepted. The terms must not exclude Sweden, Norway, Denmark or Finland by name.
- No Nordic ban. We search the decisions of Spelinspektionen, Lotteritilsynet, Spillemyndigheden and the Finnish police for the operator.
- Open for business. We do not recommend casinos that have not launched.
Step 2: what we weigh
- Protection. Is the regulator inside the EEA? Is there a clear route to independent dispute resolution? Can you set limits yourself?
- Fairness of the offer. How much wagering, on what base, within how long, with what maximum bet and conversion cap?
- Getting paid. Processing times, daily and monthly caps, and whether verification rules are clear.
- Clarity. Dated terms, consistent wording between banner and terms, and plain answers from support.
- Fit for the guide. A betting guide favours good sports terms; a Pay N Play guide favours casinos where no-account banking actually works for readers.
Step 3: sources
We rely first on regulators’ registers and decisions and on the casino’s own terms, read from a Nordic connection, then on official tax guidance from Skatteverket, Skatteetaten, Skattestyrelsen and Vero. We use trade press only where no primary source exists, and we name it.
Step 4: keeping it current
We re-check a casino when its terms version changes, when a regulator acts, when a reader reports a problem and whenever we update a guide. A casino is dropped if it fails any gatekeeping check, and we say on the guide what was removed and why.
What we will not do
We will not invent test deposits or withdrawals, sell positions, or let a casino approve what we write. Our about page explains how the site is funded; our full list shows the result of this process.
Frequently asked questions
Why are some casinos in your guides rated lower despite big bonuses?
Because a big headline with 50x wagering and a 48-hour deadline is worth less to most players than a smaller offer with fair terms, and because offshore licences give you fewer protections.
How do you check a licence?
In the regulator’s own register where one exists, such as the MGA authorisations register or the EMTA list of legal operators, or through a licence seal that validates the exact domain.
